Published Sat, 22 Feb 2025 13:12:55 GMT

BOULDER — For Colorado State, this year’s instant-classic Rocky Mountain Showdown will be remembered as the one that got away. The Rams blew an 11-point fourth quarter lead at Folsom Field, watching a would-be historic upset over the 23.5-point favorite Buffs evaporate into the wee hours of the night.“Brutal,” CSU quarterback Brayden Fowler-Nicolosi aptly summarized, no doubt speaking for all of Fort Collins.CSU had a 99.4% win probability when CU got the ball back with 2:06 left, down eight points and needing to drive 98 yards for the tying touchdown plus two-point conversion. But that’s exactly what CU did, before going on to win 43-35 in double overtime. After the Rams scored a TD at the end of the first OT, they had a chance to go for the game-winning two-point conversion. Colorado two-way star Travis Hunter was taken to a local hospital during the 2023 Rocky Mountain Showdown after being on the receiving end of a late hit Saturday night, CU football announced.Buffaloes coach Deion Sanders wasn’t sure of the specifics of the injury after the game, a 43-35 double-overtime win for CU, but “first thing I heard was that he would be out for a few weeks,” he said. The coach added he suspects Hunter will only want to be out for two weeks.“But his health is more important than his game,” Sanders said. With five minutes remaining in the first quarter, the CU receiver and defensive back was involved in a controversial play that left him shaken on the sideline. As Hunter was running a route downfield, Colorado State senior defensive back Henry Blackburn wandered over in help coverage and leveled Hunter after the ball had already fallen incomplete. Colorado State was assessed two penalties on the play — a defensive pass interference an...
