Investigative Summary: This story is part of KXAN’s “TxTag Troubles” investigative project launched May 7, 2023. Following related reports in recent years, our team rededicated its resources to this major consumer issue, after hundreds of viewers complained to us about resurfaced billing and customer service problems with the state’s tollway operator and its contracted vendors. Published Tue, 18 Feb 2025 23:43:57 GMT

Elon Musk said Thursday he has found a new CEO for Twitter, or X Corp. as it’s now called — and it's a woman. He did not name her but said she will be starting in about six weeks. Musk, who bought Twitter last fall and has been running it since, has long insisted he is not the company’s permanent CEO. The Tesla billionaire said in a tweet Thursday that his role will transition to being Twitter's executive chairman and chief technology officer. In mid-November, just a few weeks after buying the social media platform for $44 billion, he told a Delaware court that he does not want to be the CEO of any company. While testifying, Musk said “I expect to reduce my time at Twitter and find somebody else to run Twitter over time.”More than a month later, he tweeted in December: “I will resign as CEO as soon as I find someone foolish enough to take the job.” The pledge came after millions of Twitter users asked him to step down in a Twitter poll the billionaire himself created and promised to ...

KIRKWOOD, Mo. - Questions about 'racy' content in this year's yearbook have been raised by some Kirkwood High School parents.Inside the 400-page yearbook is a portion where students share their opinions on hookups, the concept of a casual sexual relationship, and its benefits and consequences. A picture of birth control was in the background.Kirkwood parent Derek Byers has seen the yearbook. His son, Wyatt, is graduating in two days. Byers ran the Kirkwood scholarship program for six years. He said he's in touch with student life and is not upset about his son's yearbook."The students of Kirkwood are provided a very unique autonomy. The autonomy is both in the school yearbook and the newspaper," Byers said. "This has been a tradition in Kirkwood for decades."The Kirkwood School District released a statement on Thursday saying:Kirkwood High School has a longstanding tradition of allowing student media to be designated public forums. Opinion: The Museum of Tolerance in Jerusalem comes at the world’s time of need

Published Tue, 18 Feb 2025 23:43:57 GMT

As an American Jew, my recent trip to Israel highlighted similar issues facing both countries. The dual events of celebrating the 75th anniversary of the establishment of the state of Israel and the opening of the Museum of Tolerance-Jerusalem brought to mind the pressing need for dialogue and a shared commitment to tolerance. These are essential values for our thriving but imperfect democratic systems. The strength and resilience of this tiny democratic nation, the only one in the Middle East, cannot be denied.Israel is the size of New Jersey and with a population of 9.7 million people. Jews make up roughly 7 million of the overall population. Despite its size, Israel is an economic and military powerhouse. Israel’s technology and innovation are the envy of the entire world. Israel was ranked the fourth-best economy in 2022 among a list of OECD countries, according to The Economist.Israel also has one of the most powerful militaries in the world. Xcel Energy wants a $312M boost in its electric rates, but opponents urge cuts instead

Published Tue, 18 Feb 2025 23:43:57 GMT

Xcel Energy is seeking a $312 million increase in revenue in an electric rate case, but the state agency that represents the public wants regulators to instead cut the utility’s revenue by $26.6 million and block it from recovering millions of dollars of investments for transmission projects. If approved, Xcel Energy’s rate request would raise residential monthly rates an average of 8.2% and monthly rates for small businesses an average of 7.7%. Xcel, Colorado’s largest electric utility, says the increase would pay for investments in its distribution and transmission systems and information technology and ensure it can meet the state’s targets for cutting greenhouse-gas emissions. The Colorado Public Utilities Commission is considering the rate increase in the aftermath of skyrocketing natural gas prices that sent heating bills soaring this winter for customers of Xcel and other utilities. The outcry over the huge spikes led to hearings by a select legislative ...
